International Theatre Resources

KEY INTERNATIONAL RESOURCE LINKS: Below is a list of the key international resources we recommend people review first.

Center for Arts & Culture
The Center for Arts & Culture defines cultural diplomacy as "the exchange of ideas, information, art and other aspects of culture among nations and their peoples in order to foster mutual understanding." A series of papers on cultural diplomacy can be downloaded from the Center's website. Also refer to this site for a thorough bibliography of news stories, books, reports and journal articles on international relations and cultural diplomacy.
International Federation for Theatre Research
IFTR promotes collaboration and the exchange of information between individuals and organizations concerned with theatre research.
The International Theatre Institute and the International Theatre Institute (ITI) U.S. Center
In the aftermath of World War II, ITI was founded to protect the rights of theatre people around the world—to ensure their right to communicate. Throughout the Cold War, during hot police actions, and in a world with a supreme talent for misunderstanding, ITI has woven a network fostering theatre communication, protecting the rights of theatre practitioners and helping American theatre artists to take their places on the world stage. ITI's U.S. Center is now based at Theatre Communications Group (TCG) in New York City.
International University Theatre Association
The IUTA was established at Université de Liège (Belgium) in 1994 to develop and promote recognized post-secondary activity in theatre training, creation, research and theoretical and practical research, throughout the world, at the level of university or higher studies. The IUTA is present in every continent and has members in over fifty countries.
Kadmus Arts
In 2006, KadmusArts created a website that has become the web’s most popular vertical search engine and open community space for every kind of performing arts festivals throughout the world. In addition to linking audiences and the arts online, KadmusArts maintains an extensive database of information on artists, performances, and arts organizations around the world, provides specialized technology services to the field, and develops content packages for other media companies. KadmusArts.com provides a platform for multi-faceted content and features on festivals and artists. Everyone in the community — festivals, artists, audiences, and cultural travelers — contributes to the site by sharing information, making connections, and exchanging ideas. You are invited to make performing arts festivals more accessible by using the tools we’ve developed to promote the meeting of cultures, performances, and artists. As you can see on the site, everything is open — and free. KadmusArts welcomes — in fact relies on — expansion of our content (festival updates, artist news, published news, podcasts, our blog on culture, links, and research), and the community Forum from our users.
Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas
LMDA is an interactive site for theatre artists and administrators, as well as other performing artists, educators, historians, and others (go to www.lmda.org/blog/RussianDrama for articles about contemporary Russian plays, and some recent playtexts).

The Magdalena Project was established in Wales in 1986. Since then, thousands of women theatre practitioners all over the world have been and are engaged in many projects that have created opportunities for artistic collaboration and strong networks of support. You can find news of events, opportunities, contacts and access to publications and archive material. There are links to groups and individual artists across the globe.
