Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean
From 25th November to 4th December 2007, the city of Alexandria will host the XIII Edition of the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean, organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the BJCEM association, the Anna Lindh foundation, l’Atelier d’Alexandrie , and the Governorate of Alexandria, under the auspices of Mrs Susanne Mubarak and with the patronage of the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation.
The theme of the Biennale
The chosen theme for the XIII edition of the Biennale 2007 is “Our Creative Diversity: kairos” (pronounced kairos). Kairos is a Greek word meaning fit time, opportunity, a point in time where change is possible
The Biennale of Alexandria 2007 is organized in seven Artistic Areas, each of them includes several disciplines.
- Visual Arts (Plastic Arts, Photography, Installation, Performance, Video Art, Comic Strip, Cyber Art, Public Art)
- Applied Arts (Architecture, Visual/ Industrial/ Web design, Fashion, Digital Creations)
- Show (Theatre, Dance, Urban Acts)
- Literature (Writing, Poetry)
- Music (Rock, Pop, Jazz, Folk/ Ethno, Contemporary, Digital, Dj's)
- Gastronomy- Images on the Move (Film, Video, Animated Films)
Participation requirements- Young artists from 18 to 30 years old can apply for the selection (born after January 1st, 1976).
- For the Show Area the age limit is 35 ( born after January 1st, 1971) for directors and choreographers. In the groups at least the 50% must be under 30 years old.
- For theatre productions, the Juries will privilege the plays taken from scripts written by authors under 35 years old.
- The artists selected for the past editions of the Biennale must not participate with a production in the same Artistic Area.
Quality, innovation and the extent to which the proposed theme Our Creative Diversity: Kairos is reflected,form the basic selection criteria for artists and their works.
All artistic media and forms, produced with whatever instruments and/ or techniques, are permitted/eligible.
In order to participate in the Call for participants, young artists should present the following materials:
- an artistic curriculum vitae, with the personal data of the artist or the members of the group
- a completed and signed application form (download from www.bjcem.org)
- a short description of the documentation presented
- documentation materials as specified for each discipline on the website.

- الاشتراك مفتوح أمام الفنانين اللذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 18 و30 عاما) أي الذين يقع تاريخ ميلادهم بعد 1 يناير 1976)
- أما في مجال العروض فالحد الأقصى لعمر المخرجين ومصممي الرقصات هو 35 عاما أي يكون تاريخ ميلادهم بعد 1 يناير 1971
- وفي مجموعات العمل، لابد ألا يزيد عمر 50 % من المجموعة عن 30 عاما . وبالنسبة للعروض المسرحية فستعطى لجنة التحكيم الأولوية لنصوص الكتاب اللذين تقل أعمارهم عن 35 عاما
- لا يحق للمبدعين اللذين اشتركوا في دورات سابقة للبينالي التقدم بإبداعات في نفس المجال الفني الذي اشتركوا فيه سابقاً .
